In our on-going efforts to use technology to improve the way we do things, we’re looking at utilising a drone for our Tombleson Logging operations.
Last year, our maintenance supervisor Mark Ramsay completed a Drone training course, in conjunction with Interpine and the Massey University School of Aviation. The course provided Mark with basic DJI flight skills and certification.
There’s a number of ways we’re planning on using a drone in our day to day, firstly to plot our thinning jobs. Instead of physically walking through and counting trees after the work has been done, we’ll be able to fly over and know we are on target or need to adjust.
We’re also looking forward to using a drone as part of our forest blocks post op audits, giving us a way to take clients along the boundary and through native without having to walk it, and there’s the potential to use a drone to price up blocks for new tenders too.
